NU's Miller earns honor at invite
Nebraska senior Ashley Miller was named the most valuable female performer as Huskers athletes won nine events Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Invitational. Miller set a personal best in the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 39.11 seconds. Her performance ranks fourth on NU's all-time chart an is the 12th-fastest in the NCAA this season.

Chadron big man glad to be a Gopher

Yes, Eliason is from Chadron, Neb. And, yes, he held a Husker scholarship offer for 16 months before telling NU coach Doc Sadler he wanted to go elsewhere.

Husker men fall against Sooners
The Nebraska men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Oklahoma on Saturday. Benedikt Lindheim was the lone winner for the Huskers, topping OU's Tsvetan Mihov 6-2, 7-6(4) in No. 3 singles. Nebraska opens its home schedule Friday against Denver.

Husker women sweep doubleheader
The Nebraska women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Saturday, downing Wyoming 6-1 and Eastern Michigan 7-0. The Huskers went 6-0 in doubles and 11-1 in singles play. The No. 29 Huskers host Air Force and Northern Iowa next Saturday.

Crick sees progress; NFL Combine the next step

Papuchis likes potential of 2012 class

He and the coaches are thrilled about their newest additions — 17 scholarship athletes signed letters of intent with Nebraska Wednesday. He said getting the prospects to Lincoln is only the first step, though.

Nittany Lions roar early to subdue Huskers
Second-ranked Penn State dominated the early matches Friday night to defeat seventh-ranked Nebraska 31-6 before a crowd of 2,673 at NU Coliseum. The Nittany Lions never trailed in the first five matches as they built a 20-0 lead. NU junior Ridge Kiley finally broke the drought in the sixth match by scoring three points in the final seconds to defeat Frank Martellotti 4-3 at 133 pounds. The crowd, subdued as the Huskers fell in early matches, erupted with Kiley’s late flurry.

Erstad has lofty aspirations for NU

Erstad gushed over Kalkowski's swing — "one of the best around," he said. And Erstad admitted that the .299 hitter, who had more home runs (5) and RBIs (42) last year than any other returning Husker, would probably bat third all season while splitting time between first base and the DH...

NU opens well in Lincoln
The Nebraska track and field team won the women's long jump and had solid performances in the pentathlon Friday, the first day of the Frank Sevigne Invitational at the Devaney Center. Mara Griva picked up the gold in the women's long jump for the Huskers, recording a season-best 20 feet, 3½ inches. Chris Phipps finished third on the men's side after going 24-2½.
