    Michelle Bradley hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, helping Southern Illinois eliminate Creighton from the Missouri Valley softball tournament with a 3-2 win Thursday.

    Creighton's senior day was bittersweet for Todd Petersen. It marked the waning days of the softball careers for some of the women he started coaching when they were 9 and 10 years old. “It's just amazing to see what they've become,” he said. “When you see what they've accomplished, you are confident they are going to do well in whatever they do after softball.”

    Bluejays compete in Valley tournament

    Creighton looks to win its seventh postseason title when it begins play Thursday in the Missouri Valley softball tournament. The fifth-seeded Bluejays (27-24-1, 15-11) will play at 11:05 a.m. against Evansville (18-36, 8-19). The winner will play host Southern Illinois at 4:05 p.m.

    Cantu shot gives Jays walk-off win

    Alexis Cantu hit a three-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Creighton a 5-4 win against Missouri State on Sunday in the regular-season finale.

    Missouri State sweeps Creighton

    Creighton was swept by Missouri State in a doubleheader at the CU Sports Complex on Saturday, losing a 1-0 in the opener before falling 13-11 slugfest in the nightcap. The Bluejays (26-24-1, 14-11) will be the No. 5 seed in next week’s Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

    CU's Stanek earns honors, Jays fourth

    The Creighton men finished fourth place at the Missouri Valley Conference championships Tuesday. The Bluejays matched last year's finish, which is tied for the second-best placing at an Valley meet since 1949. Creighton finished with a 903 while Wichita State won its fifth straight Valley title by shooting an 877.

    Miscues cost Bluejays

    Despite a 5-2 advantage in hits, Creighton lost 8-0 in five innings at Illinois State on Sunday. Creighton, hurt by eight walks and two errors, lost its third straight to fall to 26-22-1, including 14-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Nichelle Harrison hit a three-run homer for the Redbirds (32-20, 17-7). Illinois State added five more in the fifth, the final four runs coming on a bases-loaded error and three bases-loaded walks.

    Bluejays can’t walk past Illinois State

    Alexis Cantu set the school record for walks in a season, but Creighton was swept in a doubleheader Saturday at Illinois State, falling 3-1 and 8-3. In the opener, Cantu hit her 14th homer of the year for the Bluejays (26-21-1, 14-8 Missouri Valley Conference) and walked in the third inning to break the school record of 41. She ended the day with two walks, giving her 43.

    The Creighton women’s season ended Friday in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament with a 4-0 loss to Illinois State.
