    Pepin hoping NU qualifies large group for championships

    Nebraska track and field coach Gary Pepin isn’t exactly the biggest fan of NCAA Regional meets. “Oh, I’m totally opposed to them,” he said Tuesday. He’d rather the NCAA picked qualifiers for its outdoor championships on the strength of their performances during the season. Only men’s decathletes and women’s heptathletes are selected that way.

    Husker senior Scott Willman is tied for 48th after shooting a 3-over 75 in the first round of the NCAA Norman Regional on Thursday. Willman shot a 36 on the back nine. The three-day regional continues Friday with players teeing off at 8 a.m.

    Miller, NU women tie for second; men also second

    Nebraska’s first appearance in the Big Ten outdoor track and field championships ended Sunday with a pair of near-misses. Both the Husker men and women entered the final event at the University of Wisconsin’s McClimon Complex with a chance to win the team titles, but fell short in the 1,600-meter relays.

    Decathlon record is NU highlight

    A record-setting win in the men's decathlon helped make up for some disappointing preliminary round performances Saturday during the second day for the Nebraska track and field teams at the Big Ten Conference championships. Junior Bjorn Barrefors of Stockholm, Sweden, broke Nebraska's 20-year-old record in the decathlon by finishing with 7,897 points, a Big Ten championship record.
