Family Central

An Omaha family of five gets with the times and gives a well-used kitchen a fabulous face-lift.

THE STRATEGY:
“We have three school-age girls, so the kitchen gets lots of use," the homeowner says. The family also enjoys cooking and entertaining, with some holiday gatherings drawing 15 or more guests for dinner.

THE CHALLENGE:
Transform the kitchen to match the house.

THE SOLUTION:
They made the most of the available space by adding storage capacity and building a cook-friendly island. They chose granite countertops, painted wood cabinets, a glass tile backsplash, dark wood floors, and cabinet fronts for the appliances. They also added glass fronts to the upper cabinets. “We love the colors in our kitchen. We also love our six-burner Wolf stove with a pot filler faucet." The kitchen features an oversized single-bowl sink and "tons" of hidden assets, including pullouts for bulky go-to items and stowaway zones for small appliances, linens, and more.

STEAL THE LOOK
The cabinets have a vanilla finish with a striť wash for an antique look that's fresh and inviting.
