The vicinity around Ralston Middle School will get a face-lift in a project slated to begin this summer.
Using the last of the Ralston district's Build America Bonds and money from its Qualified School Construction Bonds, the middle school will get some enhanced lighting around its campus, an improved running track and a refurbished lower parking lot.
"We've been wanting to spruce that area up for a while," said Mark Adler, superintendent for business services.
"It's a good-looking neighborhood, and we want people to take pride in the middle school. We want something functional and appealing."
The project, with a $650,000 price tag, is the last on the list for the district and completes a cycle of work that began on the middle school last summer when part of the school's roof was replaced.
Adler said it's likely the rest of the building's roof will need to be replaced as the result of a windstorm earlier this winter. That undertaking is likely to be paid for by insurance.
