A sex offender will spend the next 27½ years in prison for raping an underage girl.
Douglas County District Judge Marlon Polk on Friday sentenced Douglas J. Sieben to 50 years in prison for two counts of sexual assault.
Under mandatory minimum sentences, Sieben must serve 27½ years before he is eligible for release.
Sieben, 35, was a registered sex offender when he began assaulting the girl in 2010. He had been convicted in 1997 of sexual assault for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Prosecutor Renee Mathias said the sentence was necessary to protect other children.
"He's a predator," Mathias said. "Every risk assessment he did (before sentencing) predicted that he will reoffend. This at least keeps him in jail for the next 27½ years." — Todd Cooper
