Airport installing body scanners

DES MOINES — New body scanners are being installed at Des Moines International Airport.

The new scanner uses only a generic body image to represent the person being checked. It then focuses on areas where questionable items such as keys or cellphones are found.

The Transportation Security Administration said last year that the technology initially would be installed in 241 security machines at 40 airports around the country. The agency plans to install it in all airports eventually.

The Des Moines airport hasn't announced when the new technology will be put into full operation. — AP
