New business clients and acquisitions helped grow fourth-quarter revenue and net income for Omaha-based West Corp.

The provider of voice- and technology-based business outsourcing solutions posted revenue of $624.9 million, compared with $599.4 million a year ago.

For the full year, revenue was $2.5 billion, compared with $2.39 billion in 2010.

West's officials and the company's banking partners use EBITDA, or earnings before taxes, depreciation and amortization, as the best measure of profitability for the privately-owned company. For the quarter, EBITDA was up 3.3 percent to $168.2 million and full-year EBITDA was $681.4 million.

Revenue in the company's Unified Communications division, which includes text messaging and web-based communication platforms, increased 9.7 percent during the quarter to $333.8 million, and 12 percent for the year to $1.36 billion.

The company's smaller segment, Communication Services, including West's public safety and call center operations, saw revenue slip slightly during the quarter to $293.5 million from $296.7 million a year ago. For all of 2011, segment sales dropped to $1.14 billion, versus $1.17 billion a year ago.

Overall, fourth-quarter net income was $21.2 million, compared with a $3.6 million loss a year ago. For the full year, net income more than doubled, reaching $127.5 million, compared with $60.3 million for all of 2010.
