A kitten with four burned paws and melted whiskers is recovering at the Nebraska Humane Society.
The 3-month-old black-and-white domestic shorthair, named Jacob, was found by firefighters during a house fire last week, said Amber Horn, a Humane Society veterinarian.
“He's pretty fortunate,” Horn said.
With pain medication, antibiotics and daily wound care, Jacob has shown improvement. His whiskers shouldn't cause him much trouble and will grow out over time, Horn said.
He manages to hobble along on his paws covered in colored bandages, shelter staff said. He has a sweet personality and often licks the hands that change his bandages.
Jacob's owners surrendered the kitten to the Humane Society, and he will be placed for adoption once he is healed.
