Recruiting: NU nabs California lineman

« News

Commit No. 13 for Nebraska's 2012 recruiting class was little surprise after Murietta (Calif.) offensive lineman Corey Whitaker took his weekend visit to NU.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Whitaker got two stars and a 74 rating from 247Sports, but he figures he “slipped through the cracks” of a lot of recruiting services. His highlight film would seem to suggest the same. But the Huskers offered Whitaker as soon as he got on campus.

Whitaker's commitment isn't the Huskers' only recruiting news as of late.

Grand Island quarterback Ryker Fyfe on Monday chose Nebraska over a scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Fyfe was the first-team all-state quarterback for The Omaha World-Herald in 2011.

Also Monday, Tre'vell Dixon became the first pledge in Nebraska's 2013 class. The athlete from Louisiana's other offers include Arizona State and Texas A&M, and Dixon says an offer from LSU may change things.
