There's no change in dates in 2012 for the Cox Classic, but there could be in 2013 when the U.S. Senior Open is also in Omaha.
The 17th annual Nationwide Tour event will be Aug. 2 to 5, 2012.
Tournament Director Chad Mardesen said the Cox Classic has a verbal agreement with the managing partner of Champions Run, Bob Horgan, to extend its stay through 2012. Talks continue, Mardesen said, on subsequent years.
Champions Run has been the tournament's home since Omaha joined the tour in 1996.
Crick, Hurley advance in Q school
Brandon Crick of McCook tied for sixth and John Hurley of O'Neill tied for eighth in a PGA Tour first-stage qualifying tournament at Kingswood, Texas, moving the young Nebraska pros into the second stage of "Q school." Missing by two strokes was Millard West graduate Brady Schnell.
Also eligible for second-stage qualifying is former Omahan Scott Gutschewski, who finished 183rd on the PGA Tour money list with $229,758 after a tie for 20th in the season's final event.
State golf association names players of year
Kevin Stanek of Bellevue is the Nebraska Golf Association's amateur golfer of the year.
The Creighton senior, 22, won his first state title at the match-play championship at Wild Horse and was 11th at the Nebraska Amateur at Shadow Ridge. He also won the Michelob Classic in Grand Island by eight shots and the Indian Creek Invitational following a playoff.
The junior golfers of the year are Rylee Reinertson of Gibbon, Drew Taylor of Omaha and Danielle Lemek of Doniphan.
Reinertson qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur and had a runner-up and three third-place finishes in American Junior Golf Association events. Taylor was the Nebraska Junior Amateur winner and was 11th in the Nebraska Amateur.
Lemek is honored for the third year in a row. The Bradley recruit swept the junior girls stroke- and match-play titles for the third straight time and became only the second four-time high school champion.
The NGA's awards banquet is Friday at the Country Club of Lincoln.
Two pros leaving Lincoln city courses
Cory Fletcher and John Craw, each a former Nebraska PGA golf professional career, are ending long stays at municipal courses in Lincoln. Fletcher has resigned at Mahoney while Craw was not offered a new contract at Holmes Park.
Tim Rowland will run Holmes and Pioneers. Denis Vontz adds Mahoney to his duties at Highlands.
Like father, like son for holes-in-one
In less than a month, Dean Josten of Omaha and his teenage son Garrett each carded holes-in-one. Dean got his in a Sertoma Club outing Sept. 18 — with Garrett in his group — on the 140-yard fifth hole at Country Shadows north of Ashland. On Oct. 11, Garrett's ace came on the 14th at Pacific Springs.
Another ace feat: A Wisconsin golfer doubled his career total — with aces on consecutive days at The Prairie Club near Valentine, Neb. Don Tranchita, 71, holed out on the 156-yard fourth on the Dunes Course on Oct. 13 and the 163-yard 10th on the Pines Course the next day.
Chip shots
