When J. Krawczyk told his father-in-law about his hole in one last August, Bob Shelton lamented that he'd probably never get one of his own.
"I'd kind of given up on hole in ones," the 73-year-old said. "I was just happy to hit the green."
So Krawczyk (kraw-check) couldn't believe it when his wife, Kathie, texted him to tell him that Shelton finally got his ace — exactly one year after Krawczyk had done it.
Shelton used a 7-iron on the 161-yard 15th hole at Willow Lakes in Bellevue on Aug. 6. Krawczyk's ace came on the ninth hole at Spring Lake on Aug. 6, 2010.
Shelton's ball was sitting inside the hole, leaning against the tilted flagstick.
"It must have been the heart surgery that I had in May," Shelton said.
Shelton has been golfing for 47 years. He had to take a month off after his surgery, but he was determined to get back on the course.
"I go golfing every day," he said. "It's just something I love to do."
Krawczyk, Shelton and two of Shelton's sons, Ken and Randy, golf together every Father's Day. Shelton's third son, Bob Jr., lives in Orlando, Fla.
Krawczyk, 47, likes to golf with his five sons. His father, Ed, was a frequent competitor in the Publinks.
Sons Dan, Andrew and Steven were the witnesses when Krawczyk got his ace. He tried to re-enact his hole in one Aug. 5 this year with sons Joseph, Steven and David with no luck.
"We tried to see if lightning would strike twice," he said.
